Snack
We have a scheduled snack time in the morning after phys. ed. class. While this is a 15 minute time slot, we also need to use some of this time to get dressed for recess. Students will be asked to eat one quick snack. This could be a cup of berries, a granola bar, cheese string, yogurt, etc. Due to the short time, we do not allow juice boxes to be opened during this time.
As students may get hungry at other times of the day, or may need more time to finish food, they are also welcome to eat during the playtime blocks. In the afternoon, there is no scheduled snack time. We do throw a snack time in once in a while if there is a special event going on. If students are hungry in the afternoon or have food to finish, they would be encouraged to eat during playtime.

Lunch
Students have approximately 20 minutes to each lunch. Juice boxes are allowed to be opened and consumed during this time. We do enforce a period of quiet time during lunch so students can focus on eating. At the end of our eating time all students are asked to pack up and get ready for recess. They are welcome to eat again during the afternoon playtime if they need to.
A reminder that we are a nut-sensitive school which means we do not allow any nut products in lunches or snacks. It is also preferred that students are able to open all of their own packages and containers. If they have to wait for a teacher to help open something, it may cut into their eating time as we're not always available to help immediately. Students are allowed to use scissors to open packages.
Students are also expected to practice good table manners such as chewing with their mouth closed, not touching other people's food, not playing with their food, eating neatly, saying excuse me if they burp, and washing their hands and faces before and after eating. Due to the products being used to clean and disinfect the tables this year, we'll be asking that students don't put any food directly on the tables.

Recess
We have 3 recess times in a school day. One in the morning, one directly after lunch, and one later in the afternoon. During the morning and afternoon recesses, we will be able to use the playground as we will be the only class outside. However at lunch time, the entire school will be outside and each class will need to remain in a different zone. We rotate through the zones each day. Some days kindergarten students will get to use the playground during this time. Other days kindergarten students will be on the tarmac area or in the field. We do have some equipment that students will be able to play with when in non-playground zones.
A reminder that we are not changing shoes until further notice. Also, with fall settling in, the mornings may be quite chilly. Please wear a jacket each day so it can be worn in the morning if needed an removed throughout the day.
